The difference between boys and girls!! also known as "the cup song"

Let me tell you a little story.... Once upon an time (two years ago), I was in the stands watching my oldest two play baseball. They were young and just learning the ropes and I was the doting parent cheering them on in the stands. As I sat there with my husband watching the game in front of us, we were interrupted by a rowdy group of boys who were sitting in the stands next to us waiting for their game that would proceed the younger kiddos. There were probably about 10 of them in matching uniforms all crazier than the next, just hooting and making dog barks and doing all the other weird things boys do. All of a sudden, as if a conductor had all started them off on cue, they started to play a little tune. They started to knock their balled fists against their cups, each taking a turn playing their pre-appointed note, as if there were cups lined up with water playing a simple melody. I was aghast!!!!! They were playing a cup song!!! I turned to Morgan and said..." Holy cow! I can't believe that! Boys are sooo horrible! Where are their parents??? This is despicable!" .....
Fast forward to today... I hollered to Lund to get into the car so I could take him over to baseball practice. He told me the other day that his coach said the boys need to wear their cups to practice now in case of a rogue ball or something. Anyways, as I drove him over to practice, he said.." Wow, I feel so great... I have so many layers on and I feel like I can take on the world!!! I have my cup layer and my underwear layer and then my baseball pants....And look what else I figured out, it is the coolest thing EVER!!" He balled up his fist and said..."I CAN PLAY A SONG WITH MY CUP!!!!"
Where did we go wrong?????!!!! We say prayers everyday, read our scriptures, make our kids take piano lessons, and do the dishes. I even make him shower every other morning, which is HUGE for a 9-year-old boy. Heck, I even make him wear deodorant, just in case the shower doesn't take.
And still, he figured out how to play a song with his cup!!!!!!!! He even told me that he thinks he will stand proudly with his hands on his hips when the coach hits a grounder at him, and just let the ball hit his cup, because it wouldn't hurt at all! He was soooo proud of himself for figuring all these wonderful things out!! Where did I mess up????
I think I need to pray harder!!!!!
Maybe I just didn't have very many brothers.... I only have one brother and he is ten years behind me. Maybe mothers with six boys hear the "cup song" in unison all the time....

Just to further my point about girls and boys, let's take an instance that took place a half hour ago. Sarah wanted to have a tea party and she was even nice enough to invite her little brother. Now inviting your 4-year-old brother to a tea party is always a risky venture, but they were doing so great I pulled out the camera.....

Here is Will at the beginning of the Tea party, really excited to be included.....
Here is Sarah's little set-up. She even decorated with glass turtles that we inherited from my Grandmother. Everything was spoken quietly and daintily and it was beautiful...
See how precious Sarah is in the background.....
And then the boy in Will had reached it's "girly limit"... Here he is exclaiming..."Tea party sounds like Tea Potty!!!! Ha ha Tea Potty!!!" and then, just moments later, he hollered out, as if he was sooo proud of his comment..."Hey, Pee Potty....Pee Potty!!!!! A Pee Potty!!!!!!!" Now, his new word for Tea party is Pee Potty!!! Great... I am raising another cup singer!!!! Please help me!!!

Christa, As I read your story I thought "Oh my goodness!" kind of like a fuddy duddy. Then I smiled, I guess because these are my grandsons but at the end I could not hold back the laughter. Hilarious!
Love, Mom
